And I feel Torchwood has got a little too much enjoyment out of killing off characters. Ianto might not be my favourite, but I'm feeling reservations about trying to like anyone too much because they might die. At least DW and the SJA have an element of being nice for the kids.
I <3 Gwen, too. Not sure I'd love full-on Gwenwood to the exclusion of other things because there are things and themes in Torchwood I have trouble seeing working under those circumstances, but dude. Potential!
I think the thing that troubles me about a (theoretical) Gwen focused Torchwood is that either it would break her as she discovered that it's impossible to humanize T'wood (13 episodes of 'Adrift' sucks, IMO) or they'd significantly change the tone of T'wood - which would both contradict the mood of CoE and also point out just how wrong/mistaken/useless/crappy boss Jack was and that would piss me off.
I tend to think Jack was kind of a crappy boss (and maybe that's where they've really been going after all and it wasn't just an unfortunate side effect of some poor writing decisions), but I can't really see Gwen as leader of Torchwood and having to make some of the often brutal and soul destroying decisions he's had to make. Not if they want to keep Torchwood this dark, apparently bleak show and they still want to keep her the "heart" of Torchwood and judging by COE they very much do. She's the only one of the Torchwood crew who came out of COE pretty much untarnished so I can't imagine them wanting her to be in the position of having to sacrifice children or others for the greater good etc
