Jack sees that Ianto's feelings for him are similar to the way that Jack himself felt about the Doctor, and Jack is determined not to dismiss that in the way the Doctor dismissed him.
... I have no idea why that has NEVER occurred to me before, because hello, Jack/Doctor shipper as well here, but omg. Yes, that. And in general, your whole take on their relationship is absolutely bang on with what I think but struggle to express as well. :D
Ooh, you ship Jack/Doctor too? :) Yay! I've only written one Jack/Doctor fic (which is basically what I explained above in fic form), because I find the Doctor really hard to write, but I do love it when I find a well-written fic with this ship.
Yeah, it's a rare beast indeed. I don't even appear to have much bookmarked, though I know I've read some great things. But hey, at least now I've added one more to the collection with yours!
I have this one Jack/Doctor thing that I think I started in April or something ridiculous, keep picking back up again and adding more, and am still nowhere near done. Bah. Next year's looking good?
Haha, I should have specified-- I don't think it's a source of angst for him after They Keep Killing Suzie-- obviously while Lisa was still in the basement, and while the grief of losing her was still strong, he was a bit emo about it. :P
And, no worries. I figured something like that must have happened. :)
Oh man - as always I am horribly late commenting. Blame work (well, and me being unreliable in general).
but then I remembered my love for Ninja Turtles, when I was ten
Haha! I loved the Turtles too. I think my favourite was Michaelangelo. :P
I really enjoyed reading about your feminist views. I'm more or less in agreement with a lot of what you said - this bit in particular struck a chord:
although I don't think that ALL erotic material is harmful to women, radical feminist critiques of porn did help me to see the way that mainstream pornography does wield sex as a weapon against womenBecause, yes yes yes! This! I do get very frustrated by the radical feminist position, because (in my experience, at least) its logical conclusion often seems to be denying all female sexuality that has anything at all in common with male sexuality. (For example, I've spoken with women who vehemently deny that slash exists/happens, or who claim it must be a joke - it must be pathological, in other words. It can't just be that it's hot! But I'll

My favourite Turtle was Raphael. Mostly because red is my favourite colour. :)
Yes, I have read The Beauty Myth, and I really enjoyed it, although I'm less certain about a lot of Wolf's later work (which I haven't read, but I've read about it). I also saw Wolf speak at a Writers' Festival event in Sydney a few years ago, and I wasn't very impressed. I felt like her feminism, as she presented it in that speech, was only relevant to white middle class women, and it didn't really acknowledge that women don't operate as a monolithic group (ie, she seemed to not recognise that conservative women exist), and she lectured Australian women on what our political strategies should be in a way that made if VERY clear that she had no idea how our electoral system works. None of which takes away from the awesomeness of The Beauty Myth, but it was a little disappointing
