It's the main reason I'm not watching it, it because of the American angle. I'm not a fan of American remakes of British tv shows. Ok so this is not a remake but it has moved to America, written by Americans etc.

I've seen too many movies where America is the main focus of alien attacks etc. That's why Torchwood was a great show. It was a secret organisation based in Cardiff. Doctor Who made UK the focus of alien attacks and other things. So it's a great change from anything made in Hollywood.

So far it does feel like and American remake of a British show. Also I feel that I would prefer it if it was, instead of pretending to be something else. Because some kind of hybrid can't really work. RTD has moved on now, so maybe, if it's not cancelled, it can just come out and be an honest Hollywood spin off.

Sorry to hear you're feeling more bitter about CoE but I think maybe it's inevitable with them trying to tell us this is somehow still the same show. Once everything was killed off, the characters, the locations, the sets etc, it is hard not to feel bitter with this. It just feels clearly like RTD wanted a Hollywood career, he's got what he wanted out of it, and moved on to do the shows he actually wanted to do.

So that does make me bitter, if he hadn't used the show to further his own ambitions, maybe it could have been resurrected. Or even used as a universe, I had really liked JB's idea of Torchwood adventures set at different times (great for him of course as Jack would be the one constant!! ) I know the Beeb has been short of money, but they've made a lot of other drama since, I genuinely think it was RTD running off that set off the chain of events.

I'm really sorry it's having this effect on you.

My CoE-dislike comes from a different place than yours so I'm (possibly) better able to brush it off and accept the camp elements coming back with relief rather than anger.

It's pretty hard for me to hate the show when Rex is shipping Jack/Gwen and CIA bitch is walking around with a broken neck.

Rather than putting the gay jokes in a pot with some perceptions of CoE, I think it makes more sense to see them as the kind of thing Doris Egan wrote over on House MD, both for the House/Wilson shippers to glomp onto and for House to lob periodically at Chase and a few other characters. The exact same stuff that basically got her canonized as St. Doris.

Haha, the whole woman walking around with the broken neck was hilarious. I suspect that finding it hilarious makes me a bad person, but there you have it.

Anyway, the whole thing with this is that I did like the ep -- it's just the context that upsets me. I don't really have the context from House, re: the gay jokes thing, but it really did strike me as a group of people who are supposed to eschew "quaint little categories" goading someone into outing themselves... it felt off, to me. It would have been far better just to have Jack or Rex fuck him.

No arguments there!

I've been thinking about this all afternoon. I have a few thoughts and I'm not posting them to be argumentative or anything, so feel free to delete the whole comment if you feel it necessary ( ... )
