Tooth Pulling and Eye Poking

Going under anesthesia is a weird thing. One second we're talking about pets and, well, the next second we're talking about pets, except it's a little harder for me to talk and I'm told we're all done and they'll bring my tooth to me (they knew I was unusually unhappy about losing a tooth ( Read more... )

Anesthesia is weird. And cold. Brrrr. Both times I remember waking up shivering in the recovery area (with no idea of how I got there).

Although the last time (wisdom teeth), I also spent a lot of time in recovery telling Otter how much I loved him. Stupid sodium pentothol, I was tryin' to keep it secret!

Those evil drugs in UR system telling Otter UR sekrets!

I didn't even wake up in recovery. I woke up exactly where I went to sleep so I pretty much was thinking "so, enough about rats, when we getting started?"

I have to say I felt better about this than the amnesia drug. Just something weird about being given a drug that makes me forget whatever I could have been doing or saying, like they gave me during my colonoscopy. I think I was pretty out of it, but I do have vague recollections of looking at the screen and I know I had to have mentioned something about it because most of the time I think that stuff is neat, but I don't remember if I did or not. I hope I didn't tell the doctor she was a weirdo or anything. She wasn't a weirdo, but hey, I was drugged, and apparently, when I'm drunk (which is like being drugged), I tell people to run red lights...before we even approach the red light, sometimes.

You totally do! Beneath your mild mannered exterior lurks a road racer. ;)

If I had to guess, I would say that because a lot of people come out of anesthesia badly, they were keeping you on the same subject to help keep you from the confusion and general weirdness that tends to follow. I think it was a great move, whish my Dr. had thought of it!

I thought much the same thing. It might cause confusion later (after coming out of it), but at least initially there's no panic.

Thats a good dentist office you have! Personally i thought root planing was way worse than you described, but i'm a wimp when it comes to pain.

The root planing was awful. If I ever have to do that again I don't know what I'll do. I even had them give me nitrous for it but I think that made it worse for me somehow. The gum thing was the thing that sounded worse than it was. I mean, it hurt after, just whenever I say I had part of my gum removed because it grew too far down my top teeth I get horrified looks. :D

I'm a HUGE baby with my mouth. I don't like teeth cleaning, I don't like when they put the x-ray stuff in my mouth, I'm just generally not happy. I do like my hygienist tho. She makes me laugh.

Glad everything went OK.

If they gave you white stuff into a vein, it was probably Propoflo. Good stuff! I had it for my four wisdom teeth out years ago. We use it lots at work. Smooth fast wake-up from it.
