He might play a half-orc on TV, but don't let that fool you, people! Playing Scrabble with jakethrash is usually a very humbling experience. *scowl*

He scored a 185 point word: eight-letter word using both triple word scores in the upper left corner. LABDANUM ( Read more... )

The record at the Palo Alto Scrabble Club is 248, by an 11-year-old kid.

He had EnJOYED on his rack, and his opponent slotted a K on O4. EnJOYED didn't play, so the kid thought for a while, and played JOcKEYED for the triple-triple.

You did, I am sure, score the bingo bonus on the play that enabled him to use two TWS?

Yup, oh foolish me for putting down BLOOD so he could play off my B. I'm not usually that generous. This is a horrible board though. There's a wonderful opportunity for me to put down a five-letter triple word score, but the only word I can make is four letters long! And there's nothing else to make but dumb little 2-4-point words. Bleah.

I was thinking about high scoring words this morning by chance. A really good one would be magazine. If you could get the Z on the double letter score, it would score 30x3x3 (if the M and E are on the triple word scores) for a total of 270pts + the 50 points for using all your letters. 320 points.

How's that for an evil-scoring word? :)

And to be perfectly fair, we're running about 50/50 on games. I may get the big words from time to time, but Leesa is a master of putting down words along other words, such that she puts down letters like A N D S and scores 48 points by forming 5 words.

A parallel play was what she needed instead of BLOOD. BO parallel to anything would've scored decently, and balanced the rack.

I once played GAZELLES with the Z on a TLS for a hundredsomething.

GAAAA! Be careful! Obviously, being some kind of Scrabble supergenius he must have plans of taking over the world (isn't that what supergeniuses do?) but has been keeping it on the DL by being somewhat quiet and reserved. Now you have outed him! You could be in danger!
