I'd recommend most of them. I wasn't as keen on 'True and Incredible Stories of a Horse Vet' or 'Vet in the Vestry', though I think that was more a writing style thing for me and you might like them more.
I'd avoid 'A Parcel of Rogues' if I was you. It was a tiresome book that really didn't work for me. Only reason I finished it was because it's a whodunnit and I wanted to know who had done it!
And lol, animals? Moi? Surely you've got that wrong?! :D :D :D
LOL! I mean, oops! Well, I can recommend Amber's Donkey, though I guess that doesn't help with the cutting down bit!! :D :D
I was surprised too. The 500 pages one was stumping me, but then part 3 of a series of books I've been reading came out - and yay, just over 500 pages!! Thanks, Chris Pountney, for bringing the book out!! :D
I'd never seen the TV show, but thought the book looked interesting. There are two sequels as well, 'Shadows of the Workhouse' and 'Farewell To The East End'. I found the books hard hitting at times, but very good and well worth reading.
The TV show changes things sometimes, which threw me a bit when I finally started watching it. Plus, there are times The show feels a little sugar coated compared to the books, though clearly, it does still deal with hard issues.
But yes, I would recommend them. Just remember the books are what really happened, the TV show sometimes plays with what happened for TV reasons!
