Avocados and kidney beans...

Jul 04, 2019 14:45

Apparently, although my cholestoral is okay, the balance is not as good as it should be between the good and bad stuff, so it's been suggested I eat avocados and/or kidney beans (and porridge, which isn't an issue as I like porridge). I also need to cut salt, due to blood pressure (not dangerously high, but a little higher than they'd like).

Need recipe suggestions )

questions, about me

Might take a bit, but I have an Excel map full of links for receipes (mostly from food blogs). I'm gonna give it a look and send you some links in a PM, okay?

I was dubious of the "avocado in smoothie" thing but I found that it works pretty brilliantly. I tried this smoothie (which you could recreate) from Daily Harvest and yes, it did taste like chocolate pudding

I went vegan and eat avocado and beans, etc. It had little effect on my cholesterol levels, unfortunately. What will improve them is more activity which I am trying to carefully increase.

Thanks! Fortunately, my good and bad cholesterol levels aren't too bad, just not where they should be, so I'm hoping that a few adjustments will be all I need to do - and if I find I can't cope with avocados and/or kidney beans, then so be it!! :D

I'm hoping to increase activity too, as I know that's important. And eat more porridge, that's supposed to help, though we'll see if it does or doesn't (hubby doesn't think it makes much difference to his levels).

Garlic is renowned for lowering cholesterol. THe Daily telegraph published a book of cholesterol lowering recipe's about 25 years ago and a friend got back into normal range within 6 weekd following a high garlic, cholesterol lowering diet. The hospital thought the first test had been a false high it went down so fast.

Unfortunately, garlic is one of those things that can set my IBS off, so I have to be careful. I can have it occasionally, but not often - which is a shame, as I like it!

That said, I could try garlic tablets, see if they upset my stomach or not. If not, then that could be the answer. Thanks!

I shall also mention garlic to my hubby, who has higher cholesterol than me.

Ugh! I'm so sorry you're having to mess around with your diet. I know how annoying it is.

I hope you find some great things to eat that help. *hugs*

I've found some things to eat, though the kidney beans might have upset my stomach. I'm going to try them again at some point, in case it was something else, but yeah, they might not be on the menu *sigh* I've yet to try avacado, mainly because I keep forgetting to buy any ( ... )
