Arggghhhh!!!

My main computer has just suffered a sudden and complete nervous breakdown disc failure!!!! Thank goodness we backed up all our data to an external Sat night and that I haven't done any artwork since then, or anything that would be terrible to lose! Even so, that means no more artwork until it's fixed/we get a replacement PC ( Read more... )

OMG, I'm sooooooooooo sorry /o\ That is horrible. The only good thing is that you have a very recent backup!!!!

If it's your drive that failed, I think I have one or two seagate drives that haven't been used for a few years but one was almost brand new before it got shelved. If you think it would help in any way, please let me know, I'll dig it up, take pics to check if it fits and send it on its way once I am back home (I'm currently almost in Matty's time zone, lol :P)

Of course I can also help with caps, pics in case you lost any...

*hugs*

Thank you!! It's sooo not fun!!!

Do you know what size the disk is? Our current one is a terrabyte and we need one the same size, as we have so much data!

Ah, I think it's 320GB... sadly I don't remember but definitely not a 1TB drive /o\ But it still might be useful as an additional drive. This might finally be the kick in the a** I needed to get it sorted out because I have some photos on it, I've only used it for a few months and not exessively :)

Thanks you so much for the offer, but we only have one hard drive bay in the machine, so an additional drive isn't useful. Fortunately the 1TB ones are looking to be around £40 on Amazon, which is doable.

Thanks again - and yeah, maybe get those photos off and backed up?!

Oh, how awful! I totally and completely feel your pain!! I'm glad y'all had just done a complete back-up, though -- that helps, even if it doesn't fix the problem! :-P

And I'm always willing to beta! My gmail username is SherylynHP, if you want to email it (or anything else you need) to me anytime :-)

Thanks! In retrospect, I should have taken more notice of the noises the computer was starting to make - lots of whirring that it didn't used to do. But, well, other RL things took precedent - lesson learned for future!

Thank you. I shall have to make an effort to get the fic in shape now!!

Btw, just friended you. Sorry I hadn't done that before.

My hard drive crashed right near the end of a semester, my first year back in grad school -- thankfully, I'd done a backup not too long before, and it *did* do those weird noises, etc., that let me know *some*thing was going on, and I was able to do a complete back-up before it crashed completely. I got a new laptop this summer, and I've got a fairly recent back up of stuff onto an external hard drive, as well as backing up on Dropbox and my computer's web storage, too. I'm now paranoid about backing up in multiple places! LOL!!

Sounds great on the fic! And no worries on timing on friending -- just glad you did :-)

Thanks!! The only thing I can think atm is thank goodness it was today and not Friday, the day before our weekly back up!! It's also made me realise I need to back up my art and often used documents much more often in future!!

I love that site, it just fits sometimes with how I feel!!

Always a good idea, you know!! The last time it happened to us (years ago now) the hard bit was sorting out the hard drive, the easy bit was recovering our data!!

There are advantages to being married to an IT guy - even if he's a database programmer rather than a hardware guy!! :D

Oh sweetie, I absolutely feel with you!! *hugs* Just had to go through pretty much the same, with the only difference that I didn't have a recent backup for most of my files. But I'm in the process of retrieving a lot of them from different sources, and so far I found more than I initially expected :) So if you need anything, or need a pair of ears to vent, just PM me, okay? Like kan, I also can provide pics and caps, if you need to replace any of them (just not the most recent things)

Fortunately caps and pics are backed up too, but thanks for the offer!

And oh, even worse if you lost data! I'm struggling with the fact that I'll have lost bookmarks from my browser and the reminders on my computer calander! The latter especially - I mean, how will I ever remember anything now!
