Here via copperbadge and RFM - I lived in Jerusalem for a year and have some thoughts about places to go\things to see! Por ejemplo, check out the Nachalat Binyamin craft fair (Tuesdays and Fridays every week) for some amazing local art. I'd also suggest a day trip to Jerusalem to visit the Museum on the Seam, which is an incredible place and not on the usual tourist's radar.
In terms of housing resources - I'd actually suggest looking at the Tel Aviv University website - they probably have some resources for students who will be studying abroad, which could be relevant.
Or, search Google for any of these for apartment listings: Homeless (Hebrew, a2zisrael, Janglo, Craig's List, Bayit Buddy, Room With A Jew.
Have an AMAZING time - I loved the year I spent in Israel, despite it being totally crazy-making and difficult.
