A Walk in the Woods

This was done as a backup to an unfulfilled November 2007 Ficathon Request by spikeyboots for:
Something pre-Galactica days. Perhaps something to do with flying (but not essential). Nothing schmoopy please - (I like the fact that Kara and Lee can't ever quite get along, either as psuedo brother and sister, as friends, or as lovers.) I had thought I might get ( Read more... )

LOL Still rather crappy thing to do to a person, but if you don't get along....

Thanks, glad you liked it. I wanted to highlight the can't ever quite get along part of the prompt to the extreme in this. That included not developing any real concern for the other except as a necessary component of a military exercise. So him not visiting her (which I think is what you were referring to) was sort of just a consequence of not making any connection rather than their issues with each other during the exercise.

I loved the fact that there was no bonding moment between them, but also no massive, angsty issues either. I haven't read many stories where all the conflict between them is based on irritation and annoyance. It's different and almost fun to see them being their own dysfunctional selves without any history between them.

Thank you. I did really just jump right in with them torquing each other off right from the start never stopping to see the other possibilities. Of course that was to meet spikeyboots criteria but it does indeed highlight how messed up these two are separately without even considering how badly they tend to mess up each other.

In general my writing is mostly Lee-centric. When writing them my preference is to highlight what's mutually supportive and right about their relationship with a little banter and annoyance thrown in, so this was an interesting diversion from normal for me.
