Sending up a flag for all, like, two other people who love this episode! I thought it was so great and so believable that these people who are so close to the edge all the the time and have to keep their balance to survive would find that one part of their lives where it wouldn't necessarily threaten their survival if they slipped up and just go completely off the deep end like this. (Go, little height metaphor, go!) People have a right to sweat the "small stuff" like "is my marriage what I really want?" and my favorite episodes of the show are the ones that show survival doesn't have to be, you know, noble and pretty and emotionally mature or whatever to be worthwhile. I don't think this exploration of the QoD was petty or pessimistic, I think it was just very human.

Excellent point. However, I still find it very hard to digest this scene in special. It pains me to see him so broken and raw, especially because of the choice he does make in the end. It is just so painfully wrong. And what makes it even more painful to me is the fact that he is so alone, he doesn't really have anyone he could truly confide in to give him advice and to understand what he was going through.
