This, right here, is the most beautiful scene of the latter half of Season 4 for me. It's such a perfect bookend to the Six of One brig scene, and also to Sometimes A Great Notion because finally, Kara got what she wanted that day - unconditional love and support from Lee (who was the only person she even thought to tell that day).
In many ways I see this as the last real scene between the two of them, and I'm always happy that it's as lovely and tender as it is. It's kind of amazing to me that, in the episode as aired, Kara doesn't say one single word during this whole scene, and yet by the end of it I really feel that they've said all they needed to say to each other, and they know all that they mean to one another. For me, it's the last word on their relationship, and I can close the book here with a sense of quiet appreciation for how far they've come.
This scene always really moves me, I think because it is both so lovely andante the same time so sad. On the one side there is so much love in what he says and she somehow absorbs it into her as strength to draw from but the strength she draws from it is the courage to pin her picture on the wall, accept she is as the old Kara dead, and go to Anders and get serious about figuring out what the song means for the role she has to play
( ... )
I love the way Lee leaves the ball firmly in her court. Like he says there both there and that's all that matters, all the other stuff doesn't come into it.
