Definitely unlikely. I never really thought Galen and Lee would be the type to buddy around honestly, but I guess with humanity's numbers so small and them both having a lot of responsibility it kind of made sense. I still recall having major surprise in A Day in the Life when he and Cally were dying in the airlock and she was all "what about Nicky?" and he said "Lee and Dee will raise him." That was shocking to me on a lot of levels somehow.

I also think it's kind of awful/hilarious that both Chief and Tigh give Lee and Kara respectively the worst advice, stamping (albeit somewhat unknowingly) right on the hope that maybe they should give it a shot with each other. Sigh.

I wrote a story a while ago about Tyrol and Lee post-finale and tried to give them a prickly, honest friendship. I thought the two of them actually worked pretty well together. I like Tyrol's willingness to say what he thinks, I like his easygoing quality (which doesn't particularly change even when he feels nihilistic and despairing). I think he has a refreshing blend of cynicism and heart. And his consistent love and respect for Bill gives him a familial, almost avuncular air towards Lee sometimes. There's a lot of respect there. He becomes a very angry person in some ways over the course of the series, but like Lee he usually buries his pain and his temper. I think they might understand each other quite well ( ... )

I loved that story you wrote and I think you portrayed their relationship just as I might have imagined it to be - both solitary men who come together very very slowly, almost unintentionally, until they do become friends. It is a favorite of mine!

Oh, I love that story. Thanks for reminding me of it. It works beautifully in a post-series scenario.

In the show, their relationship is one that really intrigues me. They seemed so different and came from such different backgrounds. Besides, they didn't get off to a good start back in the mini . I think by 33, Chief was rather puzzled about the new CAG and they did seem to work well together after that and they seemed friendly enough playing and drinking at Joe's. But it took me by surprise to see them drowning their sorrows together and even more when we learned that Lee and Dee were supposed to take care of his son if something happened to him and Cally. That would imply a deeper level of connection than what we were shown. I wished we had seen more of that.

I might be in a minority here but I wasn't surprised at all when I saw Lee and Chief being friendly. It felt completely natural to me. They seem to be close age-wise and also their jobs are somewhat similar. Lee is the leader of the pilots, while Chief leads all the workers on the hangar deck. They both have responsibility for the people under them, which they take very seriously and often personally struggle with it. Their are both pretty empathetic and have strong sense of justice, they are both interested in politics and human rights, they both cross the line when their conscious dictates them to do so and they both have a tendency to be cynical and gloomy from time to time ( ... )

The best part is being the SCREEN CAPS above are the extent of the friendship.

Them being friends would make complete sense but it was never organic. They just needed a guy friend to show Lee the bar and Tyrol was picked...I think pretty much because Lee had no other friends.
