does anyone have any tips for traveling a long distance in a car with a cat? like 12 hours one day, 9 hours the next?

i have a cat carrier that i am planning on putting her in. i figure i'll let her out when i stop for gas and stuff, but i obviously can't let her out of the car or i'll never get her back in.

any tips would be greatly, greatly

i've never done that but i imagine it won't be easy. all i can think of is one of those leashes for cats so you can let her take a walk when you stop!

so scared to let her out of the carrier while i am driving. i fear it's an accident waiting to happen!

i might have to look into a leash.

Figure out where your overnight hotel is, so you can see that they do allow pets. Freaked out cats are obvious.

Also - Rescue Remedy, starting a bit in their water a day or two beforehand.

Good luck.

It is one of the homeopathic Bach Flower Remedies - there should be stuff online about its use for kitties. So any natural food or pharmacy which stocks homoeopathic remedies.

Either kitty valium, which is great.

Or, I used to have a cat that I just let ride free in the car, not in a crate, and he was great. He loved to lie in the back window, in the sun, or behind my back (between my back and the driver seat.) A little weird at first, but he was fine. And people would honk and wave excitedly when they realized they'd seen a real cat in the back windshield...

i'm terrified to let her be free for fear she'll get spooked and jump on me or something. she can be a bit crazy at times.

i've heard giving them benadryl calms them down.
