I'd ask you to marry me but I'm afraid your girlfriend would kick my ass! Although I do get any and all residuals should you take that phrase and sell it on a t-shirt.

I was tempted to read the story in question since I can't seem to pass a good train wreck. Then I saw the word 'beastiality' in the disclaimer and.. well, I don't even know if the story goes where I *think* it goes but if there are two words in a disclaimer that'll get me skidding to halt and hitting the back button it's 'non-con' and 'beastiality'.

I love the idea of anti-recs. It's weird that femslash fandom in particular holds so tightly to the idea that it's up to the *reader* to 'turn the other cheek' when it comes to negative criticism. If the author has the balls to post, those same stones should be big enough to handle readers thinking its crap.

Actually, I thought of you when I was writing this because you're one of the few writers/reccers who's willing to criticize. Are we all really such fragile flowers that we can't take constructive criticism ( ... )

Are we all really such fragile flowers that we can't take constructive criticism?

If my time in the Willow/Tara fandom has taught me anything, then - yes, we are delicate flowers that must be protected from bad thoughts AT ALL TIMES!!

As to the scene in question - um, what on *earth* made the author think that was a scene worth writing? And where does one find a beta who's all 'clit eating rats!?! Break me off a piece of that!!'. To quote one of the phrases the kids are using these day 'beastiality - I don't think that word means what you think it means'. For cripes sake, has the Gor fandom invaded Xena?

I still can't believe I had two stories removed from a W/T site because they didn't have a happy, dappy, lets all ignore the fact that she died ending. Sheesh, remove them for being crap by all means, but for sticking to canon? Pfft!

You know what? Good on you. I have been unfortunate enough to stumble upon some really... not sure if there is a word to encompass all the stomach-turning that these fics caused me.

On a lovely side-note, you've got some cool fics in your bookmarks.
And since I am totally shameless, some of them are mine, so thanks! ;)

You know, I wrote a reply to your comment, but it got lost in the ether. So to summarize: thanks! and yes, I've rec'ed a couple of your fics I think. And am thinking about rec'ing a couple of your recs. I'll give you credit if I remember. If I don't remember, please remind me that you rec'ed it in the first place 'cause I get a little carried away and, well, just remind me. *G*

Coolness, we are rec-buddies :) And if I remember to remind you to remember... well, yea, you know what I mean. Will do!

You know, I wrote a reply to your comment, but it got lost in the ether.

That damn ether. It eats up comments (and all those missing socks) like the Bermuda Triangle snacks on planes!

when the AOC was still active in xena fandom, i would get ranty, hate filled screeds for even making a link to stories like those. ::laughing:: i haven't read a tenth of the xena the conqueror stories out there, but posted links 'cos i wanted to have a record of xena the conqueror fics in the fandom. i didn't appreciate it when the people who hated the fic mistook me for the author and sent hate mails to me. it's nice to know that you have the freedom to make your antirecs nowadays without getting flack and hate mail for doing so. progress is a lovely thing.

Actually, I got to this fic via AOC (which I love, btw), but decided to omit that fact because I didn't want anyone getting confused. Also, it's totally your call which fics you decide to link to. I think of AOC as an archive, not a recommendation site. I've read some amazing fic via AOC. And I'm a huge fan of the Conqueror fic subgenre or whatever it is. I think it's an opportunity for some truly fascinating character study and story development. Unless it isn't.

It really is all subjective, I think I've just decided to finally act like it is, you know? Take some responsibility for my own particular bunch of standards.

well, most people confused the AOC as a recommendation site rather what it is and always was -- a link archive of all xena the conqueror fic that's ever posted online. i never pretended it was otherwise. your rant was incredibly familiar, though. i used to get stuff like it and worse on a weekly basis. i even got a veiled death threat once or twice. that was fun.

Anti-recs are a great idea. I always worry that I'll archive a story like that by accident - if it's a pairing I hate I tend to skim read (very badly) the story after I've ascertained that the writing conforms to some know type of English - so knowing names to avoid like the plague would be really helpful.

I think we need more honest criticism around these parts.

Off to find some bleach for my eyes.

I don't think I've ever run into one of these on your site. Yours is pretty much a safe space archive. If I ever run in to one I'll let you know.

And, yes, honest criticism would be nice. Except that I've noticed that the people who would benefit the most, are generally the least receptive to it.

I wish there really was such a thing as brain/eye bleach. I'll NEVER get those images out of my head. yuck.

I still remember fondly the 'If I'd wanted a bloody/f-ing English lesson I'd have asked for one!' reply to some very minor criticism followed up by pathetic grovelling when he remembered that he wanted the fic on my site. Sometimes I think we should bypass constructive criticism and go straight to the bitch slap.

Definitely! Wow, I can't imagine responding like that to the person you're asking/begging to archive your work? *shaking head in amazement*

I've been there. I think many of us have. This is why I made this icon and initially gave it to angharad_gov. I've had to use it myself several times since. Feel free to break the glass:

LOVE that icon. Actually, I love the AOC (I feel like I need to make a separate post now reiterating that fact), but, yeah. That was...yeah, if you run into any more of those please warn me. Or just use the icon *G*
