As this session's stupid hotel is otherwise quite exemplary, but has no internet whatsoever, I ended up watching two more episodes of SGA last night after coming home (which means that I am only a season and some behind). I guess I should have not been that surprised that now tahat I am actually writing sparky fic, I am completely unable to watch ( Read more... )

Don't let the canon correct you, dear. You should correct canon, because canon sucks.

I can't watch SGA in any other way but through sparky prism. No way! :)

Sparky always has been an important component, I guess, but it never used to be so exclusive. Having seen one more episode now I can deduce that, no matter what TPTB had in mind, the actors were clearly attracted to one another. Nobody climbs into others' personal space the way these two always do.

Exactly! They are climbing into each other's personal space. My favorite example - the end of The Eye, they are standing near the railing, and look like they're connected at hip. John straightens up, makes his shoulders look wider, pushes his chest forward and his hands are on his hips, marking certain area of his... anatomy. Men do that when they want to engage in certain activities with someone. And then he shoulders his way even more into Elizabeth's private space and waggles eyebrows.

Of course then Rodney has to come in and spoil the fun.

The episode I was watching was The Tao of Rodney which in itself offers a whole plethora of comparison material (how there is like half a meter more space between Rodney and Elizabeth during the whole "you love me!" speech than there is between John and Elizabeth at any random conversation etc.), but there is a really telling scene illustrating the dynamics of the relationships -- when they are all standing around Rodney's hospital bed. John and Elizabeth basically leaning into each other, Teyla and Ronon somewhere there, but in the background and definitely further apart.

The other thing that I now can't help but constantly notice because of you are John's short legs. I mean, look at the difference in length on that icon of your's! And I find them surprisingly hot.
