Not in a snow-area, huh? I still vividly remember the winter of '03 when it felt as if we were going into a permafrost era -- -25C for three months straight, and the snowcover saw some serious wear and tear (it snows at around 2-4C, if it gets colder than that, it's just pretty bright blue skies). I was an exchange student 80km across the Gulf of Finland, due to start on Jan 8 and the government constantly threatened to cut of regular boat traffic between Estonia and Finland because they just couldn't afford to keep cutting through the ice anymore, so I was wondering where I might be able to score some huskies and a sledge...
Oh yeah, and another thing that keeps freaking non-snow people out -- driving your car across the sea on ice-roads. My family has a cottage on an island 20kms off mainland and on most winters we can drive there on official regulated iceroads. You just have to keep a bigger distance between yourself and the guy in front of you and always drive faster than 5 km/h.
It wasn't so much the cold, but the sheer force of the snow flying in your face that made the situation, hmm... interesting. It's all turning into wet mush already as we speak...
How's your moving going? Might send you something to read soon (it's too raw to be anything quite yet, but might somewhat make up for my lack of response to the piece that you sent me, plus passiveness on lj in general...).
I'm all for reading anything you wrote! Right now I can't find time to write and I'm cranky most of the time, and that's bad for my stories.
The moving is exhausting. I want it to be over, but there's always something else to be done and I'm just fed up with it all. Right now a 28 - hour long day would be really good.
Well, consider yourselves lucky -- there are still piles of snow two stories high on streets where the ploughs piled them during and after the storm, but it's all starting to go south already. Dug my rubber boots out of the basement...

Though, the papers do say that it is advisable to find a good boat by the end of the week...

It's snowing here, but not enough to accumulate.
