It was later than Jenny usually slept, which was probably due at least in part to the fact that she was a whole lot more comfortable than she'd been in a long time. She loved living with Wendy, but the fact remained that they were underground, not quite the same as having a proper bedroom. As it was, though, it'd been so long since she'd woken up ( Read more... )

Half asleep as I am, it's easy for me to confuse the location of the voice that's barking some kind of too-excited-for-eight-AM thing. Usually it's me up first, or at least conscious first as Jenny rolls out of bed to spend four hours running various torture-like devices through her hair, both on her head and of the eyelash kind.

So, I pull the dividing wall up, open my mouth to tell her to talk quieter - I was up a lot later than I want to admit waiting for Serena to call me back - but she's not there. I leave the wall up and pad out boxers-and-a-tee style.

"It's Friday morning on a school holiday," I point out a touch uselessly, "why are you up, much less headed out the door?" I'm trying to look more concerned than wallowing in my own self-pity, and I think it works if for no other reason than 'tired' is probably all that comes off.

Jenny hadn't really given much thought to the date before, and she still didn't much care, as long as she was home. With the way the island had worked -- and oh, was it nice to be able to think about it as a place she wasn't any longer -- there was no way of knowing when she'd been sent back to, and it didn't matter. Still, she paused when she heard Dan speak, turning to face him and trying as hard as she could not to just walk over and hug him. She didn't think she even knew until then just how much she really had missed him ( ... )

My eyebrows go up first, then I can actually feel my hairline sorta realign back, and I'm pretty sure my mouth opened a bit. I'm just wondering if I heard her wrong.

"Wait, uh, Serena texted you?" I echo. "After I've been waiting a full - oh - 8 hours to find out why she completely flaked on out plans." I sigh, hands on hips, then shake my head.

"Uh, yeah?" Jenny answered bluntly, unsure, for a moment, of what was even going on. It had been ages since she'd even thought of Dan and Serena as a couple. The realization that, at least for him, they were still together seemed downright weird, though she tried her hardest not to let it show. "Don't blame me, I don't even know what's going on. All I know is -" She held up her cell phone, waving it ceremoniously in the air. "I come when I'm called."

She'd almost forgotten how much she'd been under Blair's thumb. Now, it just worked to her advantage, playing along like that was her reason when it actually wasn't at all. Well, not a lot, anyway.
