Fic: A Brood of Vipers

People used to assume that as the son of a priest and an oracle, Galen had a rigid, rulebound upbringing. Lots of dull sermons and prayers, not much pick-up pyramid.

That wasn’t actually the case. The Lords reveal truth through metaphor and mystery, and his parents emulated their example. When he danced naked among open copies of Nymph in the ( Read more... )

This was absolutely fascinating. Galen's anger is such a part of him that crept up throughout the show, and seeing it treated seriously as a genuine flaw is just amazing. I really enjoyed this, with all it's darkness and the bit of hope at the beginning. Lovely work!

Thank you! I was rather worried this would read confusingly or disjointed, so I'm really glad you enjoyed it :).

What lls_mutant said about Galen's anger. Wrath doesn't just steal reason. In the Christian ethos wrath is considered a sin, because it steals God's judgment and replaces it with man's. I love how you played with the notion without actually saying it.

Thank you for reading and commenting! I'm pleased you liked it so much. I'll admit, wrath as a cardinal sin wasn't at the top of my head when I was writing this - I just pictured Galen drowning his sorrows circa S4.5, trying to figure out what the frak's wrong with him and everyone around him, and simply ran with it. *blushes* But given his religious "background," I'd imagine Chief would have come to that same conclusion were he a little more sober and less hung up on Boomer and being a Cylon. Thanks for pointing that out!

I'm glad the meme lead you to sharing this story.

Galen isn't a character I've done too much introspection with (or read fic for) and this was fabulous.

The way that that story sticks with him until he finds his answer in it... Or, as close to an answer as he'll get.
