Happy 7

Off and on this week, I've contemplated the charge given me - list one thing each day which makes me happy. I find myself wondering about the difference between happiness and gratitude. Is it that happiness is entirely self-referential, while gratitude is a relational thing? Hmm

Maybe gratefulness is a prerequisite to happiness. I can think of things I’m grateful for that don’t necessarily equal happiness but I cannot think of anything that I’m happy about that I am not also grateful for. I think in order to be happy about something you have to realize it’s good and I think every one is in some way grateful for good things in their lives. Most people just don’t think about it and take the good stuff for granted without realizing that they are grateful for it. I can’t think of anyone who is ungrateful who is also happy. OK - taking off my philosopher’s hat now. :p
