The Reiki Symbols

An interesting, dissenting opinion regarding the Reiki symbols. The way I was taught, the symbols (which have been published in books and all over the Internets) are not secret, as Reiki itself is passed through the attunement--NOT through the teaching of the symbols ( Read more... )

I personally do not charge at all ... I was given the attunements by barter from my Craft Sister who is a lineaged Reiki Master.

I asked one of the people I attuned a couple of months ago if she would cook dinner for me when I went over to attune herself and her husband and a friend. She made the yummiest curry stew ever!

I was VERY skeptical about Reiki until I got my first attunement.

It's actually something that is of great practical benefit, and it's unfortunate that it's becoming associated with the "pyramid scheme" type of thing to which you allude.

i got I and II and for me the 'secret' was in the attunement, as you said, in the energy transmission.. felt like my aura was being graffitied on with light, though not in a bad way. i suck at Reikiing myself but have had success w/ others, both in giving and receiving. so it's very interactive and requires a certain trust but it does work. it's a definite physical or electrical feeling/current, as is Feri.

Thanks. I think this is just as much the case with the initiatory Traditions (such as Gardnerian, Feri etc.) where masses of material once considered strictly Oathbound have been published. Even though it seems elitist or whatever to declare this fact, I firmly believe that there's a huge transformation brought about in going through the initiation ritual (so long as everything goes properly and "the Hound does not turn up his nose at the cake"). There was a reason why our Foremothers laid such emphasis upon the "laying on of hands." I don't expect this idea to make much sense to those who have not EXPERIENCED the power of an initiatory current. And this is in a sense unfortunate because it means that people are going to think that the initiation is somehow just a placemarker, a formality, or a welcome-to-the-club type of bagatelle.

At this point, I personally am just focussed on leaving the world with a few good Witches behind me. The rest I leave up to the Gods.
