For those who gave me gifts, I thank you. They were unexpected, but receiving them brought me much pleasure. One offeri...gift in particular has been my favorite, but I am grateful for all that has been given to me ( Read more... )

My family didn't get along what you could call wondrously, but I do have a brother I'm fond of. I send him socks every Christmas with my name on them.

Why would you send him something with your name on it?

Well meaning teasing. And he'll always recall who got them for him.

Ah, that is very amusing. Do you think he wears them?

My family is dead also. [Though the Enterprise was more his family.]

Dead because of age, or through circumstance?

Circumstance, mostly. My brother died by my own hand.

Unfortunate, but sometimes necessary. Not done easily though.

Family? I have a mother, but I had more of a family with my friends. And my father died when I was five.

[MOTHERS. GRACK. You get a simple response, Cissie.] Why?

[...But it's the hardest question! Also, MOTHERS indeed. :|] It's kind of complicated. I guess the simple answer is that my mother... wasn't much of a mother?

Then shame on your mother. You created the family that you needed.

I can't... remember.

You can't remember your own family? You must have had one.

Oh, yes, I was born a human, I know I had one. I remember my father, because I can still see what he looked like when I killed him. I can't remember what they looked like, though, or what their names were.

Because you came something else, you had to lose your past? Is that what you mean?

I don't have a family.

That's not possible.

I have genetic donors whom I haven't acknowledged for over eight hundred years and whose connection to me has been wiped from nearly every record. I don't believe they count as "family" by any usual definition of the word.

No mother, no father, no siblings. I guess you are completely without.

Loneliness is being without, but also you are with less weaknesses.
