The rest is a caseload of "meh." It's stuff like this that tempts me to turn my eye into goo pudding, using a rusty screwdriver. I just don't get why people are so obsessed with anime.
mmm...I might have to locate a copy of Battle Royale, to see if there's anything to it.
Ewww, yeah that wikipedia image you linked is pretty frightening.
Do you remember that crazy Japanese school girl from the movie Kill Bill? That actress has a starring role in Battle Royale, which is how Quentin Tarantino found her. You could basically take her character from Kill Bill and plop her right into Battle Royale and she'd be right at home. In Kill Bill you get one ultra violent Japanese school kid; in Battle Royale you get a whole class of them! It's a violent movie, so I'm just giving you fair warning.
Yay - that image freaked you out. I was worried about you for a second or two. ;) I try to be non-judgemental, and not spoil other people's fun, but I get a bit ancy with all of this animiephilia. I love fiction. I sometimes dabble and slip into fictional worlds; however, I rarely, if ever, attempt to drag them into reality. I see people who try to bring their beloved characters "to life" at cons to be really, really scary.
I doubt the violent content of Battle Royale will be a problem. After all, I survived the gory greatness that is Mortal Kombat 2. I am just hoping that the movie will tackle some cool social aspects about poverty, and what conditions people are pushed to under it, rather than just have a splatterfest.
I know - I try to hop on that higher ground a lot, with mixed results.
That picture was pretty scary though, lol. Especially that pose that she's in, it's almost a 'come hither' pose. But she looks like a giant puppet! Yeah, I do dabble in fictional worlds too - I play an mmorpg for chrissake! I love reading fiction and sci fi too... but you don't have to worry about me, hehe.
As far as violent content goes, it seems the Japanese have a special knack for it. It can get pretty shocking. I mean, they're not afraid to show children getting mangled! I can't remember the last time an American movie showed a grade school child getting mangled. High School kids, who are always played by twenty-somethings in the movies anyway, meet their demise in varius gory ways... but small little children? I dont' see that happening in American movies.
The last movie that shocked me most especially was Ichi the KillerI haven't seen Battle Royale for some time. I think it deals with a society unable to deal with it's juvenille delinquents, so it resorts to gladiator style entertainment to kill two birds with one
