trent is shutting down the spiral fan club and incorporating alot of what was offered with membership in nin.com for free. that's all fine and good...sorta. he said there will still be presales, but for anyone who signs up at nin.com. which could mean 10837 scalpers buying up all the tickets. not good. plus it seems there will no longer be early ( Read more... )

"why don't you trust him ? he would know.."

(as they say on ETS..)

Anything in the direction of will-call ticket collection would solve the scalper issue.. and as for the queuing, especially in the US, it's always spiral against spiral anyway. And if i look back at the evolution between 2005 and 2007, it seems to me that the fan-club thing exacerbated queuing issues, if anything.. queuing never seems to be as bad for any other band, *especially the ones WITHOUT fan club. Then again, came across a trailer for U23D the other day and ppl in there were queuing since, what, THREE DAYS ???

Don't worry, i'm sure you guys will eventually be fine (but yeah, i would be freaking out too..)

you're right, forced will-call pick up will reduce scalpers for sure. i think if they continue with music today, the way other bands run their presales, it is still will-call only. if they end up just doing presales through ticketmaster with a password that is sent to nin.com members, then we're fucked.

u2 fans are RIDICULOUS with queuing...easily 3 days. they bring cots and grills and everything. they actually have 2 lines now too, for u2.com members (waste of money) and non members. but both lines will have people there sleeping out for 3 days, and if i remember right...both lines get entry at the same time, so we never really knew what the difference was. the rumor was that more people in the u2.com line got approved for access inside the circle shaped stage, vs the other line.

At my ATL U2 show, there wasn't even a separate line
for the paid U2.com subscribers. The line for GA split
into 5 doorways to enter the atrium of the arena,
three on the left for U2.com'ers and 2 on right for
the rest of us. From what I could tell, the inner
pit/elipse/big fucking whole in the middle of the
stage "random computer entry" went off about the
same at all five points. So, yeah, U2.com paid
subscription is definitely a waste of money.

You know, I hadn't thought about the fact that U2 had
Interscope to fix the first presale ticket debacle.
That definitely took some money and negotiations with
the promoters. As you said, TR & company no longer have
those resources, and we all know exactly how well Trent
gets along with promoters. :D

for some reason this fails to bother me. what does bother me though is my not being able to log on to the remix site b/c they say i've failed to validate my e-mail address when they never sent me the link to do so. we'll see what happens.

Pearl Jam fan club does the will call only, ID needed to pick up the tickets, BUT, not to actually get in. So said scalper can go and pick up the will call and still sell them. But there are limits (2 per person) and the thing that sucks is that if something happens to come up and you can't go to the show... you're out of luck, you can't give someone else your tickets.

The scalper situation is getting badly out of control. Like the Ice Bowl debacle. It's not fair and I always hope poeple won't pay scalpers because it just encourages them. Evil.

i've heard reference to the PJ club and how that's gotten pretty bad, in the hopes that nin doesn't get that way but i really don't know...the spiral was 2 tickets, name on them, will call pick up only also, but for the spiral entrance you needed your card and for your name to match (tho they were lazy about it at times). for a while when my grandma was dying i was really nervous about being unable to go to shows and then losing the tickets, but at least for us...given that brandi the ticket/fanclub woman knew us i could have had friends pick them up with a copy of my drivers license. i can see the name on tickets thing preventing long distance scalpers, and alot of internet scalping but your right, if they're local they can just go pick them up like the rest of us.
