Ballet: Maybe I'll Perform Again

Last night during Grande Allegro we did a fairly simple combination that ended with an assemble. During the second and third round, in which embellishments can be made to the original choreography, I decided to practice six de vole. The literal translation is "flying six" and it is basically a six-count beat of the legs. (there is no example in the ( Read more... )

She's Erica Cornejo, formerly of ABT and now Principal of Boston Ballet. She's Herman Cornejo's sister.

She has the best entrechant six I've seen, even better than the Kirov (on one DVD the Kirov dancer doesn't even do a six, she does a quatre).

I've always been better at jumps but more of allegro jumps. Petites defeat me but I've never really concerned myself w/ that too much; allegro was where I'd show off like mad and for a 5'4 girl to cover the Met stage in two grand jetes, well it was impressive enough to certain people.

Are you going to be performing with a company or is it one of the school shows?

Go for it! You'll be amazing!

One of my studios has a "Solo Night" with open participation; this is my only opportunity to perform right now.

I haven't been told outright that I'm too old to join the studio's company, and I do receive thorough coaching from the Company Director, so maybe I have a chance. It's good motivation.

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. I am a very goal-oriented person (Type A personality) so not only do I love ballet as an art form, I love that I can set both finite goals (performance) and continuous goals (improvement).

On the flip side, I can't really grasp the concept of "art for art's sake" and dance simply for enjoyment with no goals. I need to have some sort of "purpose" for doing something, and a way to measure progress, in order to feel fulfilled.
