strange injury and new addiction

So about a month ago I was walking along and my knee just gave out. No warning or anything, it just stopped working. Went to the doctor, and after several hundreds of dollars worth of x-rays was told I have a bad sprain, torn ligaments, etc. and to stay off of it for a month.
