Six years after legalization, the same-sex marriage debate is as over here in Canada as it's ever likely to get. Even the most right-wing party has to promise not to put it back on the table in order to win votes. But even here, people still call it "same-sex marriage." I wonder how long that will last?
Reason number 1 why we love living here - we're just simply "married". Yes, a lot of folks up here still refer to "same-sex marriage", but legally, we're just plain-ol', capital-m Married. Bryon/lupinebear and I carry one another as spouses on our work insurance plans (prescriptions, dental, vision, etc.); when I had to go to the ER in 2009 Bryon was right by my side because I wanted my husband, no one on the hospital staff batted an eye; hell, I was able to stay here for the 20 months of my unemployment because I'm on a spousal work permit off of Bryon's "real" permit.
