why does every change that google makes to gmail result in needing an extra click to get to something that i need to use all the time? in other words, why do we need to bury the sign out button behind a drop down window?

that's how it used to be for me but it changed last week, i think it was. what browser do you use?

Mine is gone too.

Maybe because if you click one more time that counts in their popularity stats.

Mine is hidden, but since I mostly check Gmail on my personal laptop (or with the Mail app on my phone), I hardly ever use the sign-out button.

I suspect that Gmail keeps hiding things you need to use all the time behind extra clicks because you're an atypical user. If most people used the sign-out button all the time, it would be kept more accessible.
