For grownup computers, it's "Adobe Digital Editions."

I had to download an app called Bluefire for my Ipad. I had the impression that these books can't be read by any other software, presumably because of DRM.

Sadly, I found that UC Press books I had downloaded onto my laptop, before I owned an Ipad, could not be moved to the Ipad. I must read them on the laptop. I can't really complain, though, about books your employer has been kind enough to provide me for free.

I'm assuming you need to use Adobe Digital Editions to read a DRM-protected ebook. You need to download the Adobe Digital Editions software as well as make an account at their website.

Once you've got the software running (and you're logged in), you can plug in your e-reading device, and it will likely appear in the left-hand column. You can then click the little "tools" icon next to the device name and choose "authorize this device."

After you do that, import the book into your ADE library, and drag & drop it onto the device in the left panel. It should load on to the book.

At least, that how it works with Sony and Kobo ereaders. If you have something else, a step or two might be different, but the basics should be the same.

Thanks for this advice. I think the version of ADE I had predates the Ipad. Downloaded most recent version. Still can't puzzle out how to get DRM books from ADE into Bluefire on the Ipad... perhaps I'll try some other evening.

I read this book several years ago and really liked it.

I had a brief email conversation with her after reading it about our current dance community and transgender people as well as casual cross-dressing like I do at camp for the costume ball and the difficulty she had in early days in the square dance community (who are very fussy about clothes) when she started wearing dresses.

I read it a while back. I actually met her here and took her to lunch. She put the episode into the book, and if I could find it I'd refer you to the page. She is very interesting to speak with, and instead of having a conversation wholly about transitioning we had a conversation/discussion on transport economics, which is her academic field. She's in favour of privatisation, and I'm not. I wonder if we would have the same opinions now, after the francising débacle we've had here.
