needing poetry for a wedding

Mar 08, 2013 23:18

Working on the next vignette for "...Best..." and I'm wondering if anyone can supply a piece of poetry or verse that would be suitable as a reading for a wedding. I'm trying to avoid the overused "Love is" verses from the Bible.
thanks

Your hand in my hand
My soul inspired
My heart in bliss
Because we go together.

I like that. And I like that it's from ancient Egypt...cuz I think it'll be Daniel doing the reading. But it's too short. And there's nothing in the rest of the piece that it's from that would be closer to what I'm looking for. Actually, at this point I just trying to piece together the next scenario. All I know is that's centred around Cam's wedding, but I don't have any concrete thoughts as to how the snippet will play out. At this point I'm just looking for inspiration and I kinda like the idea of Daniel doing a reading for the ceremony, but I'm not committed to it.
If you know of anything that's two or three verses that would be excellent. I was thinking something from Khalil Gibran, but I don't know his work well enough.

Ah, so you need love poetry about someone else's romantic relationship -- that is, written in 3rd person instead of 1st?

May I suggest searching for "wedding blessing"?APACHE WEDDING PRAYER
Now you will feel no rain,
For each of you will be shelter to the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
For each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there is no more loneliness,
For each of you will be companion to the other.
Now you are two bodies,
But there is one life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place,
To enter into the days of your togetherness.
And may your days be good and long upon the earth.

Nice...reminds me of the one we used for our wedding, but given our different locale I believe it was a Huron prayer and it started something like "O Great Spirit". When we watched the video afterwards we joked that it sounded like we were launching a ship, lol.

Anyway, thanks for responding...Justine sent me a link to a variety of readings that I think has what I'm looking for...if of course I decide to go this route. I'm still trying to create the scenario and I was looking to have details settled if the scenes plays out with Daniel actually doing the reading.

thanks again.
