I have to suffer through 8 hours of science training. Not like cool science training, boring how to teach science for people who hate science training. I love it.
PS-what is it you do again, ms. scientist? Wanna come talk to some 8yr olds about how science is cool?
your kids would so get a kick out of me. i'm in the only industry in the world that titles its scientists "Scientist". not "Chemist", or "Biologist", or anything remotely descriptive, like "Engineer". "Scientist."
Beyond that, explaining to people what I do all day is horribly uninteresting. Our company manufactures diagnostic testing kits for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and bloodborne pathogens. When they make things, they make things in big huge giant vats. Our group gets a sample of what's in the big huge giant vats and makes sure it works before they vial it. It sounds awful, but it's actually really interesting.
If you want to make science cool, try showing them neat things:
Get some chemicals that change color when you mix them together (or, to be even more "high-tech", get ones that change color when you add an enzyme), and get them to play with them. Especially if they phosphoresce.
Get them to find out the chemistry behind glow-sticks. (Then tell me. I know how it works in theory, but I don't
( ... )
