fans won’t spend copious amounts of time arguing which future works are canon.

I doubt that will ever end. ;)

NGL, I wish Canon Czar was my official job.

I managed to run into this bit of news as an "off-topic" item today, where it was pitched with an aggravatingly familiar "this has got to be a blank slate on which they'll remake things our way!" twist... but anyway, I do find myself wondering if this is going to be a "yea/nay" vote for specific works, or for specific concepts. There are a lot of people out there noisily attached to certain characters from the novels, and to okay the simple fact of their existence just might be to bring some of those characters back to life...

There are times when I'm convinced George Lucas's current position amounts to practicing what he said about "letting go," and when I'm convinced of that I want to respect him for it. (That does, of course, counterpoint the accusations of him not relinquishing control to those who would make things the way the noisy wanted to be...) There are also times, though, when I wonder if there hasn't been some elaborate "let's just see if they can make everyone any happier in the end" game set in motion...

I agree LP - HATE the idea and this is the reason why I think JJ is resorting to the Holy 3. He's scared sh*tless that this film won't be fully embraced by the fans so he's falling back to the known. The OT known. He's already put himself in the OT fanboy section. He is catering to them. This is a first class wimp move. And with zilch imagination.

Please - I like Fassy, think Hugo is amazing but I don't want big stars with so much history (and future unavailability) in the next trilogy.
