one piece of advice the Gentleman Author gives is to never talk down to ladies, because if they're not well-educated they can tell you're talking down to them and get pissed off, and if they ARE, they think you're an idiot!

I love the long and grave essays on the importance of manners/learning foreign and/or dead languages/how to cook a pheasant. I have a couple of text books from, variously, between 1870 and 1914 on topics such as Latin, French, Arithmetic, and history that just KILL me. Collector, yo. Though the antique Bibles have their own shelf- now I feel guilty and kjfljasaljfd have to go re-organize my shelves now.
