I realize I haven't got past the Stilshrine of Miriam yet but what the hell, members of fandom, Vayne and Galbranth?

I AM CONFUSED.

As the only real awesome presents this year were from members of my flist (video games and books) and the rest of Christmas could be summed up as 'sick, working and driving in pouring rain', I think I want a redo.

...I understand, intellectually, why Vayne x Gabranth would be appealing to people who like that sort of thing, and it makes more sense than some other pairings I have seen, but at the same time... um, no, people. Did you play the same game I did? (The answer is probably no.)

Then again, I probably shouldn't talk, since I don't believe the least little bit in Basch/Balthier as a pairing but Andrea and I are having a fine old time having her Balthier make my Basch go '..........' and also '!!!'. (But we're still not writing them as an actual pairing, it's just that Balthier has a peculiar idea of kindness to his fellow man.)

Also, I think Penelo is the kind of girl who would like to get a dagger for Christmas. (Or a gun. I gave her Formalhaut.)

well of course she does, it's just that when you have that little money the cute and useless doesn't happen very often. Also I think for her birthday she gets the best dagger ever. Vaan and Larsa went in together.

I think it requires that one want to see a) any character at all, and b) Gabranth in particular, mistreated sexually in the same way that Vayne actually treats Gabranth in the game. Which I don't, but heaven knows I've seen enough of that sort of thing in fandoms where it made even less sense to know it's a popular kink.

Oh, speaking of Penelo and flower brooches, have you see the fan art of her putting the Rose Corsage on Basch? Because if not I will upload it for you so you can die of cute. XD

the weird thing is that she's setting it up so Garbranth and Drace are apparently not that in to each other (WHUT) and that Vayne seems to sort of like Garbranth! in his own special head crazy way.

Vayne/Gabranth is for people who I guess think ordering a guy to murder his political ally, friend, and long time paramour is really really hot. .... well okay, or it could be the Master/Servant kink, I guess.

The fic, meanwhile, feels me with an unadultered amount of D'AWWW. Oh, Larsa.

the only thing I can figure is that it's a continuation of Everybody Loves Basch, which as an identical twin makes me want to punch them a lot in the head. I guess it is supposed to parallel the whole Basch and Larsa thing???

The hell of it is that the author in question appears to be seriously shipping them together which even given that she's making it clear that Vayne is crazy in the head, still makes me wonder what the hell she's on.

Or it just might be me and the whole NO HE MADE HIM KILL DRACE reflex speaking.

...you know that's probably it. Dear fandom: GABRANTH DOES NOT EQUAL BASCH. GABRANTH DOES NOT SPEND MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF THE GAME STARING SOLEMNLY AT HIS PRINCESSES BACK. GABRANTH IS ALSO MAYBE SLIGHTLY LESS ABOUT THE MANLY HUGS TOO, CONSIDERING HE'S SORT OF A MESSED UP PUPPY WHO'S NOT AT ALL ABOUT TO DO OR BE DONE BY VAYNE IN ANY FASHION THAT ISN'T ICKY AND WRONG.

And anyway everyone knows Larsa probably totally shipped Gabranth and Drace. Just by virtue of the fact they were two of his FAVORITE PEOPLE EVAH growing up and he wanted them to get along ^_______^

...you know, without having watched Edward play the game (which he got for Christmas), all I can think is 'I'd like to see Vaan and Larsa do each other. As friends or something.' and frankly I am bewildered by this.

The utter cuteness and hilarity of this fic slays me! I'm very glad I took your advice on Fandom Wank and followed you to your LJ. Because, seriously... Widdershins! Cute jewelry! Fran reminding Larsa of Drace! Vaan being disgusted by flowery crap! Larsa trying to find a courting gift! The utter cuteness and hilarity of this piece slays me completely.

(And I'm still hoping for a Larsa X Penelo X Vaan OT3 of doom someday. As you said before, they can always keep him as a free-range pet. ;)
