Sherlock's Last Vow

Jan 15, 2014 12:34

So, apparently there're mixed reactions toward the last episode. Some said it was amazing and some said it wasn't. Me? I thought it was magnificentI'm not quite sure why some didn't like it as I didn't read the discussions because they'd be too distressing! But I'm thinking that maybe the reasons would be somewhat similar to why some people didn't ( Read more... )

I loved it too, so I know where you're coming from. It does take away the joy when there's so much criticism out there. People are allowed their opinions, of course, but I wasn't expecting so much of the negative stuff! There was so much to love. I was relieved that Mary didn't die, when we were all dreading it. And the John love, oh it was so there!

It must be bloody hard for the writers to please millions of fans every episode, especially when they're told 'not enough of this' one week and 'too much of this' the next.

Those naughty smoking brothers are a crackup!

And yes, the waiting. Moriarty - quite a twist to the tale!

I'm so glad that you love it, too! I saw your post but dared not read it for fear that you hated it. Now I'm going to do just that - read it, I mean.

I like Moriarty and I'm glad that he's back!

Edit: LOL I just went to your LJ and saw that your reaction was not under a cut. For some reasons I thought it was hence what I said above *facepalm*

First of all i'm so glad i'm not in Sh fandom! I've told they pissed at John! And for what? For not reading what's been in that flash drive! Can you believe it?
Second of all ep3 finally felt like real Sherlock. So you can tell i'm liking it :)
Forgot to add my third of all :) You NEED to watch new spn ep and hug Dean! You just need to do that!

I'm all with John for not reading what was in the flash drive. I thought it was the correct decision. IF he read it, it should be because he wanted to leave Mary but he didn't want to leave her so why bother to read it?

Yup! Though I was a bit antsy earlier on with the "girlfriend" because that was totally out of character. I should have known!

Okay, I'll watch the latest ep. For you!

Me too! I don't get why he should read it? What that would change? It was logical for not to read it cause all that was in her past - the thing that almost threw them apart. Not reading about her past John made it clear he doesn't care about the past but about their future. It was very noble of him and I think Mary appreciated it a lot.
Haha, me too! I was WTF in the beginning, what it that? Is it a revenge show for John or the writers just lost their minds? But then everything was tied up and explained and I felt like they fooled me :)

Not for me! Watch it for Dean! He needs all out hugs!

I think the writers really surpassed themselves with that episode.

I do wish there was a heartfelt hug at the end there, not just a handshake, but like someone said, they're British!

They did declare undying love - that's *very*un-British!

I decided not to read any negative comments. Whenever I cam across someone who started harping about something, I just skipped it. I'm in too much of an afterglow to let anyone spoil it for me :)

I agree, never before in the show did we see Sherlock's love for John so plainly. Or John's for Sherlock. When Sherlock shot Magnussen, John's look told us he knew exactly why Sherlock did it, that he did it for John. And it was heartbreaking... ;_;

I'm glad that it didn't end with yet another heartbreak, just the opposite, everybody was so pumped to throw themselves back into the game!

I still don't really know why some fans didn't like it ( other than the "just a handshake?" at the end of the show ). My initial thought when it was revealed that Mary wasn't what she was supposed to be was "oh no, the Irene-Adler-episode haters are going to hate this", you know, how the women-are-made-to-be-villains-who have-to-be-saved-by-men thing, but apparently that wasn't it. So yeah, I don't really know what was wrong with the episode because I love every moment of it!

I honestly didn't get the "just a handshake?" complaint either. I mean, you could see that they were barely holding it together - Sherlock's eyes were so red from holding back tears - if they hugged, they would've literally broken down, that's why just the lingering handshake. Eh, as Sherlock said in 301, everybody's a critic.

I enjoyed it completely--so much so that the instant negative reactions I made the mistake of reading right afterwards really took me by surprise, and even made me wonder if I'd been "wrong" to have reveled so much in the episode.

Sherlock just isn't a show I feel super critical about--it pleases and satisfies me, and gives me plenty of fannish glee, and I guess my angle on it just doesn't reveal its failings to a degree that bothers me.

Glad you liked it too!

I saw the negative reactions before I watched that episode ( just the general vibes nothing specific because I don't do spoilers )so I was kind of bracing myself for a poorly-executed episode. When I saw Sherlock with his "girlfriend" I thought ahhhh, so that's why but that was not it. Then it was revealed that Mary used to be an assasin and she shot Sherlock and I thought oh dear, this is going to be another Irene Adler but apparently that wasn't it either! So I guess it was that "just a handshake" thing. Unless there was another reason which I didn't pick-up!!

I sort of understood that people were unhappy with characterization (Sherlock seeming to be quite another person than he started out as, I guess), and plot holes (which I never notice unless they absolutely shout at me because they're big enough to drive a truck through).

Me, I bought the whole package, with utter fannish glee.
