After Pablo died, I was really grossed out about the whole situation until I put out some salt in the site of death to absorb the bad aura. I viewed it as sort of a biological process where the salt absorbs all the bad bacteria/germs/mold/fungus/whatever. (Pablo wasn't moldy when he died, but in the month before he did, mold grew REALLY easily in his cage. It never grew in Antonio's cage though, despite identical cleaning rituals.) The salt thing might seem a little ridiculous, but I felt WAY better afterwards.
