Yeah, I've been to a lot of trans workshops and I was the dramaturg for one of Toby's earlier plays. He's an interesting character, very vocal about trans issues. He owns chickens, too.
I think it's really neat that the topic's coming up in articles like Newsweek, I think they did a pretty decent job of trying to stay neutral about things and present different views/sides. And Yay Toby!
You know, WE by extension are in Newsweek. I'm pretty sure I was one of the people who was saying "cool, let's pick a name." ^.^
I like the article. I especially like that they didn't shy away from talking about younger kids who identified as trans, since I think in some ways that's the most controversial aspect of the subject.
I wonder sometimes how I am going to do on the gender thing with my kids. I know that I want them to grow up all gender-stereotype-free, and open to the gender spectrum for themselves, but I'm not sure exactly how you do that in this society without being "those weird people who didn't give their baby a name and refused to tell anyone whether Sie was a boy or a girl."
