I just finished reading that article while sitting at work answering the phone covering for reception. The comments are interesting to say the least.

Yeah, I've been to a lot of trans workshops and I was the dramaturg for one of Toby's earlier plays. He's an interesting character, very vocal about trans issues. He owns chickens, too.

I think it's really neat that the topic's coming up in articles like Newsweek, I think they did a pretty decent job of trying to stay neutral about things and present different views/sides. And Yay Toby!

Yeah, I was really impressed and the way each side was presented. It's one of the least biased pieces I've seen on trans issues.

You know, WE by extension are in Newsweek. I'm pretty sure I was one of the people who was saying "cool, let's pick a name." ^.^

I like the article. I especially like that they didn't shy away from talking about younger kids who identified as trans, since I think in some ways that's the most controversial aspect of the subject.

I wonder sometimes how I am going to do on the gender thing with my kids. I know that I want them to grow up all gender-stereotype-free, and open to the gender spectrum for themselves, but I'm not sure exactly how you do that in this society without being "those weird people who didn't give their baby a name and refused to tell anyone whether Sie was a boy or a girl."
