Dreamwidth

So, in my continuing inability to keep my creative work on the same website/codebase/blogging platform for more than a couple of years at a time, I'm thinking about jumping ship from Livejournal to Dreamwidth (when it opens - April 30). Or, well, cross-posting and maintaining friendlists in both places, but having Dreamwidth be my main blogging ( Read more... )

Hm. The concept of buying a seed [permanent] account is HIGHLY tempting, if indeed I can port all of my existing content over.

Yeah, that's one of the big "if"s -- though an even bigger one is whether they'll remain stable and self-supporting over the long haul. LJ's been around now for, what, about 10 years now? And LJ in the early days was a different beast -- a lot more like Dreamwidth is purported to be.

Of course, 10 years is an eternity in Internet time.

And I know that quite a few people are pretty excited about Dreamwidth as an alternative to LJ. One thing that makes me happy, since I expect many of the people whose blogs I follow will not be moving from LJ, is that it seems to have good features for cross-compatibility with other blogging platforms -- you can "friend" people on LJ (well, using OpenID) so that they can see your locked posts, for example.
