I really like the way you set this up, with the contrasting perception from Spock, Jim, and Winona's point of views. Just looking through Spock and Jim's eyes, Winona really does seem like she dislikes her son and is disappointed in him. But the end gives of some sense of her actual feelings...

I look forward to reading the rest. ^^

It's very easy to demonize a character in a situation like this. But... the more I got into the character dynamics between these three, the more I realized I needed to show Winona's pov as well. I'm glad it helped you understand her feelings. :)

Thanks for coming on board. ;)

whooo boy, this is such a wonderfully detailed beginning, I love how we're able to see each of their sides rather than left speculating.... makes it harder to just assign the role of 'bad guy' very exciting!

Even though, there was a point while writing this when the whole task of tackling three characters dynamics' was feeling really daunting to me, I truly wanted to explore what their feelings were, so I knew I had to bite the bullet and go for it. Glad it made sense to you. ;)

I'm really enjoying the story so far. I love how circumstances caused Jim to invite Spock to his home and how Spock's secret feelings for Jim meant he jumped at the chance. I'm glad now, that with Winona being there and all the years of family history between them, that Spock will be a stabilising element for Jim, and perhaps for Winona too.

It was cute how Spock was exploring all the natural elements around the farm, and his admission that he, too, had spent some time on a Vulcan farm. I love the way you just threw that in there about the 'common Vulcan', because all the ones we meet through the stories are really quite uncommon by comparison. So that was a nice touch.

I'm also enjoying the switch of POV, as we gain insight into the same situation as seen from the different characters. And I'm enjoying your characteriations very much!

On to Chapter 2....!!

This is going to be a late night...! :-)

You have no idea how much the idea of you enjoying these characterizations means to me. Truly. ;)

I'm happy you noted the 'common Vulcan' thing. I had a vision in my head of Spock doing something very manly and hardcore strong, and thus surprising Jim with his knowledge of common chores around a rural farm setting, but the thought of putting Spock through that in the middle of all that freezing weather proved too much in the end. So this was my alternate. Glad it worked. ;)

robust and flavorful, just the way I like 'em...ever consider getting this published as a pritnzine? We need some re-boot in print, we really do! Just keep it in the back of your mind...I would die to have this in a zine, along with the beautiful CGA's...on to the next part...

Printzine....? Nope, never thought of that before. I'll have to look 'em up. :) But thank you so much for the lovely comments.

You're very welcome! Have you ever read any K/S in print? Printzines are a marvelous way of immortalizing our stories...and as far as I know, there haven't been any re-boot stories included in any of the current printzines, although I could be mistaken about that...just a thought, your story was both eloquent and memorable, perfection on so many levels, and completely satisfying...thank you so much for posting!

Nope, never had that pleasure. I know about TOS zines, but I thought they'd now moved onto the electronic format. I think there was a discussion a few days back at kirkspock about zines.

Thank YOU for reading and making such encouraging remarks. Feedback is the food for the writer's soul, and I'm feeling very satisfied right now. :)
