It's Van Buren receiving a box that Lennie Briscoe wanted her to have after he died. (Hope that's not a huge spoiler for anyone....) I've always had it in my head that Lennie loved to read and that he had a secret crush on Anita, so he wanted her to have something that meant a lot to him.

I suspect Mike got all his copies of Mickey Spillane! And Ed has his editions of Easy Rawlins, etc. But since Anita's the classy lady she gets the classic whodunits.

Okay now the story is total clear and I like it very much. Yeah Anita is a classic lady...wonderful work.
