Oh, LJ. AGAIN.

Mar 22, 2011 18:44

debris_k valiantly figured out why seemingly random comments at various comms we co-mod kept being screened despite the posts being set to leave all comments unscreened. LJ, in its great wisdom, has decided to set the default for all private journals and communities to screen comments from non-friends with links. Thanks for the announcement there, LJ.

I suggest you check your settings if you disagree with those shenanigans.

Dearest, most beloved LJ: hiding spam is not the same as combatting it. I appreciate your effort, but it goes into entirely the wrong direction. Please to stop fucking around with the settings to employ stopgap measures (anyone wanna bet on how long it'll take for bots to join comms en masse?) and deal with the actual problem.

FFS.

ETA: because debris_k says it so well:

If you've noticed comments randomly being screened in comms you frequent you might want to let the local moderators know about this and pass on the link. (Otherwise they might spend an hour searching for the community emails/privacy settings page, since the only direct link on the manage communities pages is from the edit profile page; it's not directly linked from the manage communities menu.)

ETA2: You may also want to check that comments from non-registered users are allowed, if you're all right with anon comments.

wtf, non-fannish
