Gävle, part 7 - Gamla Gefle

Mar 13, 2015 19:38

One more area in the town of Gävle that managed to survive though the 20th century - Gamla Gefle (literally Old Gävle with the old spelling of the town's name).

Everything always looks so clean in your photos. I love the style of architecture.

Sweden is really pretty clean. There are not many shabby buildings here. When something is not in use the authorities use to be quite fast with demolishing it, sometimes too fast which they can regret just a couple of years later. Graffiti is allowed in some few places while in the rest (especially in well visible living areas) they try to remove it as soon as possible. So to find something in an obvious decay you have to look for it pretty hard in this country.

And here all I have to do is walk down the street! Demolished cars in driveways, weeds and stuff. It can often look pretty trashy. It is sad :-(

Sometimes it's possible to see something slightly trashy here as well, even in quite decent and quiet areas.
Though there are also some less fortunate small communes where unemploiment is higher and where they don't get enough taxes to keep it as pretty as in the richer parts of the country.

Beautiful photos!

I love streets that are too narrow for cars, and that together with the intricate local building style and all the bright flowers - it's just wonderful!

I believe that nearly anything can be improved with trees and flowers. So I always enjoy areas where people take their time and put some efforts into planting something pretty. I wish I was good at gardening...
