hehe, i guess sarcasm rarely works well in chinese? or maybe it works, but it's just that most chinese fail to appreciate it cause they aren't used to the sense of humor u have? i've noticed that my dad usually makes a story sound funny in chinese simply by using exaggerated fine details. but when he tries to be funny in america, it just confuses the heck out of ppl, hehe.
Yes; I've long said that "the Chinese have a wonderful sense of humor in everything except their comedy." I know plenty of Chinese people who tell absolutely uproariously funny stories, and there's a ton of classical works with really brilliant humor. (Zhuangzi and Honglou Meng are the ones that come to mind first, but of course there are plenty of others.)
On the other hand, my God does most Chinese comedy suck. Stephen Chow is kind of funny, I guess, and Feng Xiaogang is quite good - but the stuff that you see on TV? Even the comedies that I liked, like 粉红女郎, weren't really all that funny at all.
