Resources on emotional intelligence/empathy

I'd like to improve my ability to pick up on other people's feelings and respond to them. I've heard of the book Working with Emotional Intelligence but some of the reviews say that it's lots of anecdotes about how important emotional intelligence is with very little on how you can improve your own emotional intelligence ( Read more... )

Non-violent Communication, by Marshall Rosenberg. It never explicitly mentions emotional intelligence, but really, if you read the book (which is deceptively simple), and work through the exercises, it will significantly increase your emotional intelligence. Once you've read the book, look for groups in your area, there might already be a group that meets to discuss, and practice the concepts contained therein. It's a slow process, but mindful application of the ideas over time can produce dramatic results.
