This morning began with me yelling at the radio and feeling violent urges toward a government minister. The reason was Phil Woolas* discussing plans to introduce a points system to obtaining British citizenship. He talked about how people would gain points by having needed skills and qualifications, by speaking English and by doing slightly

Lots of places have points systems for immigration; but AFAIK they are all just positive points for things you have done/can do. Although I guess that a lot of places will turn you away if you have a criminal record, and I think some places won't let you in if you have expensive-to-treat medical conditions.

Protest is very important. There should be a pro-protesting protest.

No, the vast majority are desperate enough for citizenship that they'll put up with really quite an extraordinary amount of indignity in order to get it.
