So, my desktop computer is not being awesome. I keep getting an error message that says that there have been unauthorized changes to my computer and that I'll no longer be getting alerts (which...doesn't make sense, cuz isn't that an alert?) and it's just bugging me. I'm thinking that this is probably a good time to maybe do a complete system ( Read more... )

D: I'm sorry about your computer. *hugs*

I got an external harddrive about two years ago and it was the best decision ever. It hasn't fucked me up once since I got it and it holds EVERYTHING. It was kind of expensive but pretty worth it. And that's all I know on the subject /o\

I mean, it's working, but not as well as it could, you know?

What kind is it?

I hate computer's sometimes! I got an external harddrive about 4 years ago, because I have so many pictures that I didn't want to lose. This is the exact one I have: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FFRZ3K/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0000EZ1KA&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0Z77EZZY2SDEF6091HTM

I love my Seagate Free Agent Desk external harddrive. It's simple to use and has an automatic back up option that basically mirrors your hard drive. You can also save separate folders for stuff you just want on your external as well. The 1TB one is selling for $79 at Best Buy right now, which isn't too bad, (I'm actually considering buy another, since I've almost filled mine up) though the portable ones are a little more expensive. Though I don't think the desk one is too bulky so I carry it around anyway, but of course, it does need it's own power supply.

Having it be portable isn't a huge deal, it'd just be nice if I could like, take the drive and put it on my bed if I want to watch movies off of it or whatever, you know? But I'll probably have to use the surge protector next to my bed anyway, so it'll probably work out the same.

I actually do that all the time with this one, the cord is pretty long (as is the USB cord) so if you have a plug near your bed it should be possible. The plus side of the desktops is that they come with fans, so they stay cooler, which extends the drive's life. They also tend to run a little faster than the portable ones, since they have their own power supply.

However, if you find yourself somewhere you can't get to a wall plug, you can't use it, which sucks. :(

Oh, that's a good point. And they're less expensive, which is my favorite part of any purchase.

I'm not sure I'd ever be anywhere that I'd have it that didn't have a plug, you know? I mean, do they even make places without plugs? Cuz if they do, they should stop.
