I couldn't agree more. I used to be pro-life, then I grew up. People can argue about when life begins but by the time the baby is born, there is no doubt it's alive. You can't be pro-life while cutting services for those in poverty, allowing health care providers to withhold birth control, supporting unnecessary wars, and supporting the death penalty. Each election cycle I want to ask people who "vote their conscience" which candidate is more pro-life, the one who tries to make abortion illegal when we know (used to know?) that won't happen or the candidate who supports increased access to contraceptives so fewer abortions will be necessary in the first place. I never ask because I know these people don't actually think about these things.
Before birth, you're a precious baby that needs to be protected. After birth, you're just another drain on the system. That's because the dirty little secret behind being "pro-life" is that it doesn't have jack shit to do with life - only controlling women.
(By the way - did you ever get my response to your letter?)
No, I didn't. I just figured my letter didn't get there. I wasn't real sure about the address. So glad you got it! Our mail here SUCKS. I've had a check that was Express Mailed to me delivered to the wrong address. Thankfully that person brought it to me. I often wonder what all I don't get.
