I think, at that time, the language was much more fluid (i.e. changeable) than it is now.

I think Sir Philip would have helped us kick the midterm's ass, if he'd been around today. I had that feeling studying (ie, "going for a walk and thinking about Sir Philip Sidney") last night. I also have a feeling those particular teachers are not out to get us. So yay?
