Untitled project part 10 !

Hey guys,
I'm so sorry for the delay, but I've been sick the last couple days and writing anything coherent was out of the question.
So instead I decided to join Jensen at the fever club and we suffered together ;o)
Well I'm nearly back to my normal self, but Jensen ... just read for yourselves :

Chapter 10

“Jim!” Misha suddenly shouted.
“What?” Jared shot him a confused look.
“Jim, he’s at the sound studio in downtown Vancouver today. He could check on Jensen.”
The actor already dialed their friends number while Jared tried to reach Jensen for what felt like the hundreds time.
Misha quickly explained the situation to Jim and when he was finished, Jared looked at him with hopeful eyes.
“He’s gonna drive over right away.”
“God, please let him be ok!” the young man tiredly rubbed his face.
Twenty minutes later Misha’s phone finally rang. “Jim?”
“ I’m at the house now, Jensen’s Pick-Up is parked in the driveway. The spare key’s still in the old hiding place?”
Misha looked over to Jared who slowly nodded.
‘This is not good … this is so not good!’ The same thought kept spinning in his head over and over again.
Both men held their breath while Jim got the spare key and opened the door.
“Jensen?” No answer.
“Jensen?” A little louder this time.
“Are you here? It’s me, Jim.” Still no reply.
“Dammit Jensen, answer me!”
Jared stared at the phone in his friends hand and absentminded bit his fingernails.
They could hear the older actor walking up the stairs .
“Jensen? Where the hell are you, boy? Jen … OH MY GOD!”
“Jim?!” Both actors jumped up and Jared suddenly had the feeling that the walls of the trailer were closing in on him.
“Jim, what is it? Please say something!” Misha’s voice was shaking while the other man wasn’t able to speak at all.
“JIM!”
After a couple seconds, that felt like hours to them, Jim’s voice was heard again:
“Jesus, he’s … lying on the bathroom floor … he’s … I’m gonna call 911.”
The call was disconnected and the two men stared at the phone in sheer horror.
“No, no, no …” Jared whispered and let himself slide down on the wall to the floor, not able to hold back the tears anymore.
Misha dropped down next to him and held his crying friend close.
“Shhh, Jared, he’s gonna be ok. Everything’s gonna be ok!”

Jim knelt down on the floor next to Jensen’s lifeless form and felt for a pulse with trembling fingers.
A relieved sigh escaped his lips when he found a weak but steady beat. He also felt the heat radiating off Jensen’s skin and panic gripped him again.
He gently slapped his friend’s face. “Jensen? Come on, wake up boy. Please, talk to me!”
A weak moan was heard and the young man’s eyes slowly fluttered open.
“That’s it boy, open those eyes for me.”
“Jim?” Jensen’s voice was not more than a hoarse whisper.
“Yeah kiddo, I’m here. Just hang on, the paramedics gonna be here any minute.”
“What happened?” the fever dazed eyes glared at the older man.
“You’re asking me? I dunno, but you’re sure running a fever again.”
“Crap!” Jensen tiredly closed his eyes.
“I gotta call Jared and Misha back, they’re probably worried sick by now. Just lay still, everything‘s gonna be ok.”
Jim got up and grabbed a blanket from the bedroom while he dialed Misha’s number.
He gently wrapped Jensen’s now shivering body in the blanket and smiled:
“Jared and Misha are already on their way back, guess they’re done shooting for today.”
“Tell them not to worry, I’m …” the young man abruptly stopped talking and tried to get up.
“Whoa Jensen, watcha doing?“
“Sick!” came the weak reply before he started retching violently.
Jim held the shaking figure tight and soothingly rubbed Jensen’s back.
“Breathe kiddo … that’s it … just breathe, you’re doing great.”
The last dry heaves wrecked his friend’s body and he sagged back against Jim’s chest, completely exhausted.
The older actor stroked his damp hair and Jensen drew in a shaky breath.
“Hurts,” he whispered and Jim felt the tears welling up.
“What hurts, Jensen?”
“My back,” the young man’s eyes rolled up and his head tipped sideways as the darkness claimed him again.
From the distance the wailing sound of the ambulance was heard.
“Hear that, Jensen? They’re here, I’m gonna let them in, ok? I’ll be right back,” he cautiously lowered the unconscious man to the ground and stood up with wobbly legs.

By the time Jim had called them back, Misha and Jared had already made it crystal clear on set that they were done for the day and that nobody could keep them from leaving right here and now.
Not that anyone dared to stop them anyhow because everybody was completely shocked about the news from Jensen and returning to the daily business was out of question for the whole crew.
When Misha answered the call they were already in Clif’s SUV with the bodyguard breaking all speed limits on their way down the mountains.
Jared silently cursed the fact of being miles away from his best friend, not able to help and comfort him, but he was glad that at least Jim was at Jensen’s side right now.
‘God please, don’t let it be anything serious again. I don’t think I can handle it.’ He closed his eyes and took a couple of deep breaths. When he opened them he saw that Misha was on the phone again.
“Yeah, ok Jim … we‘re on our way. We‘ll meet you at the hospital.”
He turned around and looked straight into Jared’s pleading eyes.
“They are taking him to the hospital now … but he’s unconscious again.”
Misha helplessly looked from Clif to Jared but neither of them was able to say a word.
Clif had a death grip on the steering wheel and hit the accelerator, eyes focused on the narrow street ahead.
They made it to the hospital in record time.

The three men busted into the ER where Jim was pacing the floor once again.
“Jim … how’s Jensen?” Jared stopped in front of the older man and his heart skipped a beat at the sight of Jim’s worried expression.
“Dr.Hatch is still in there with him. They …” he broke off as the door opened and a nurse came running out of the room where they had taken Jensen to earlier.
Jared tiptoed to be able to get a glance into the room but he only caught a glimpse of his friend’s way too pale face before the door fully closed.
The nurse returned with two IV bags and vanished inside.
“Dammit! What’s taking them so long?” Jim hit the wall with his fist, causing the other three men to look bewildered at the older actor.
“What?” he snapped “I’m worried, ok?”
Jared put a hand on Jim’s shoulder. “We’re all worried Jim, but Dr.Hatch will know what to do. I’m just glad you found him.”
The older man turned around and looked at the tall man with teary eyes.
“That’s the thing, Jared. Finding Jensen on the bathroom floor … for a moment I thought he’s …” he shook his head as if he wanted to get rid of the horrible picture.
“Jesus Jared, I was scared to death. I thought this time we’d lost him,” he admitted weakly and the young man pulled him into a hug.
“I know Jim, I know … but I’m sure he’s gonna be just fine. We Texas boys are tough!“
“Yeah right!” a small smile crossed his face. “Thanks Jared.”

Another half an hour later the door opened again and Dr.Hatch came out.
He walked over to the small crowd. “Gentlemen, I didn’t expect you all back here so soon.”
“Well our friend seems to really like it here,” Misha tried to lighten the situation.
The doctor smiled: “I guess you all would like to see Mr.Ackles?”
“Is he awake?” Jared stepped forward.
“Yes, he’s awake and already asking when he can get outta here.”
The three men rolled their eyes.
“I didn’t fill him in on his actual condition yet, cause I’d rather have you gentlemen as support while telling him,” the doctor admitted and Jared had to laugh at the fact how good Dr.Hatch knew his friend already.
Together they all walked back to Jensen’s room.
Once again they were greeted by the sight of their friend in a hospital bed, pale as the sheets but at least awake this time.
The nurse was attaching the second IV bag to the pole next to Jensen’s bed and smiled at the five men entering the room.
“I see you brought backup Dr.Hatch. I better leave you alone with the patient now.”
“Hey guys!” Jensen tried a weak smile. “Did I miss something?”
“No, except that you scared us all half to death again,” Jared fumed. “So Doc, can you please tell us what’s going on with our buddy here?”
Dr.Hatch took a deep breath: “As far as we can tell at the moment, the infection’s back and …”
“But with the antibiotics from the last time it will be gone in no time, right?” Jensen interrupted him.
“Would you just shut up and let the doctor finish, young man!” Jim shot him an angry look.
“Ok, ok!” Jensen bowed his head.
“Basically you’re right, Mr.Ackles …”
“See!“ he flashed a triumphant smile.
“SHUT UP!” four voices shouted at the same time and Jensen flinched at their harsh tone.
The doctor couldn’t help but smile and continued: “Unfortunately your body’s immune system is still overwhelmed with the last infection so that the new one affected your kidneys.”
The men looked at Jensen who stayed silent this time.
Jared swallowed: “His kidneys? That’s why his back hurt?”
“Yes, we still have to run some more tests to be 100% sure, but that’s mainly the reason for his present condition.”
“And what exactly does that mean?” Jim was next to ask.
“Generally speaking, it causes the inflammation of the kidneys and if not treated properly it can lead to the complete shutdown of the kidneys and the built-up of waste products in the body,” the doctor explained.
“Wow - you really do nothing halfway, dude!” Misha shook his head.
Jensen fiddled with this blanket and shifted uncomfortably on the bed as if he already knew what was next to come.
“But you caught it early enough to prevent that from happening, right?” Jared tried to keep his trembling voice under control.
“It looks like it, but as I said we need further tests to get an idea of the full extent of how badly Mr.Ackles kidneys are affected.”
A deep sigh was heard from the man on the bed. “So what’s gonna happen next?” Jensen wanted to know.
“We’re gonna start with a series of tests right after we have you settled in a private room. Depending on the results we can immediately start with the appropriate treatment then.”
“So a lot of poking and prodding coming up, yuck!” he pulled a face like a three year old and his friends started laughing at the sight.
“Hey don’t worry Jensen, we're gonna take turns holding your hand,” Jim chuckled.
“Yeah, yeah, I’d rather enjoy you guys company on set or at home instead of a hospital. I hate hospitals!“ and with a glance over to the doctor he added “No offense Doc, but hospitals just give me the creeps.”
“None taken, Mr.Ackles. You’re not the only one who’s telling us that. I’ll get the nurse to prepare you for your trip upstairs. Gentlemen, I guess I'll see you around.”

After the doctor had left the room Jared turned serious:
“You know, man, seeing you in the hospital in such a serious condition again, gives us the creeps, too. If Jim wouldn’t have been in the sound studio today and if Dr.Hatch didn’t call me right after you didn’t show up for your appointment … you’d still be lying on the bathroom floor … and Lord knows what would have been up with you by the time I would have gotten home …”
Jensen saw the fear and despair in his friends eyes and suddenly realized that the whole situation could have taken a turn for the worse if it wouldn’t have been for his friends.
“I owe you big time, guys,” he gratefully looked from one man to the other.
“You only owe us one thing, dude and that’s a promise to not do anything like that ever again!” Jared smiled.
Another nurse entered the room. “Ok Mr.Ackles, let’s get you ready for your trip upstairs.”
She started unhooking the IV bags from the pole and released the breaks from the bed. “Gentlemen, may you excuse us now?”
Jim, Misha and Clif quickly said good-bye and promised to be back the other day.
“Take it easy boy and don’t you give the nurses a hard time,” Jim tousled the young man’s hair.
“Sure and thanks Jim … you know, for being there when I spilled my guts all over the floor,” Jensen grinned at the older man.
“Any time Jensen, any time!”
The three men left and Jared followed the nurse and Jensen to the elevator.
“Jared you should go home too. You look pretty worn out, man,“ Jensen looked over to his friend with half-closed eyes.
“Right,” Jared chuckled “Says the one you can hardly keep his eyes open!”
“Hm, at least I‘m lying flat on my back already and you better do the same before you conk out,” he struggled to keep his eyes from closing completely and Jared realized his friends face turning a shade paler, though he was pretty sure that this wouldn’t be possible, as he was white as the sheets already.
He felt the hairs on the back of his neck stick up in alarm.
“What’s wrong Jensen?” worry clouded his voice.
The nurse looked up at his question and eyed her patient suspiciously.
“Um, dunno ... feeling kinda funny,” Jensen slurred.
They had reached the third floor and were on their way down the hall when Jensen suddenly jerked off the bed.
“Sick!” he panted and vomited over the bedrail.
Another nurse came running and together they pushed him into an empty room and started checking his vitals immediately.
Jared watched terrified from the distance trying not to get in the nurses way.
His friend sank back on the pillow and mumbled an embarrassed “Sorry”.
The nurse smiled at him and said: “Don’t worry Mr.Ackles, that happens quite often around here. Your blood-pressure is pretty low, so we’ll give you something for the nausea and you just sleep a little, ok?”
Jensen weakly nodded and closed his eyes.
Jared walked over to take his hand and gently squeezed it. “Just get some rest Jen, I’m gonna be here when you wake up.”
“You don’t have to stay, Jared,” he could barely hear the words as Jensen drifted off already.
“I know, but I want to!” he whispered.
