What's a decent price for gently used zines?

May 14, 2012 23:47

A generous friend sent me a bunch of Sentinel zines a couple of years ago and it's okay with her if I donate them to Moonridge. So, I don't know much about pricing them. Anybody have a clue what's an okay price to ask for, since this is a charity auction ( Read more... )

Prices for used zines depend on several things -- original selling price, popularity of the zine, well known writers or stories in it, art work, color cover, length of zine, condition of zine and whether or not it's still in print. A pristine copy of "Changes" with all the artwork might go for more than say, a dog eared copy of a bunch of short stories by writers that are mostly unknown with a plain cover. Or a much desired zine that had a limited print run would be worth more than one that's been out for ages that you can still get copies from the original editor of. But as a rule of thumb, if a zine sold for $20 originally, I'd start the auction price at maybe $10. If you could send me a list of the zine titles, I could be more specific.

I'll send you the list as soon as I get it typed up, or, hopefully, I can find the descriptions on line and just copy them. All of them are in great shape. I think there's only been two readers even turning the pages, me and the friend who sent them.

Thanks for your offer, I appreciate it.

I agree with April's comments re the prices for used zines depending on whether it is rare, popular, in good condition, etc,.

You could always check out http://destiniesentwined.skeeter63.org/

which has a list of Gen and Slash zines and info regarding what zines are now out of print (OOP). The list is not exhaustive - it has not been updated for quite a while - but it may help you decide how much to ask for the zines currently in your possession.

If that does not appeal you can always ask Aly for suggestions re pricing.

Not sure if any of that helps but I hope it does.

I looked at the site and it does look helpful. Also, it has links to the publishers so I can check there, too.

Thanks. I appreciate the tip.

You will enjoy 'The Avengers'. Joss Whedon did a good job with it. His love and respect for the characters is very visible throughout the movie.

I brought home THOR, tonight. The movie, not the actual Norse god.

Pity, that.

"Pity, that."

I know. (Well, actually, I've always gone for smaller guys. Really tall men remind me too much of my father and four brothers. My dad is 6'6", Ed is taller than him, and the other three are around 6'3-6'4'.

I could be willing to make an exception, though.

THOR(the Norse god) was kind of adorable once he got over the frat boy of Asgard mentality. Loki needs therapy and lots of cuddles, poor baby.

I'm really looking forward to seeing The Avengers. We watched Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and hopefully on Thursday night I can rent Captain America. Is there a particular Hulk movie we should see first? I didn't really like the one where he was so giagantic, but then I was a fan of the old TV show.

Why must I go to work? Why?

'Captain America' is a very well made movie with excellent acting ... that I found rather dull. YMMV. I was not a particular fan of Captain America but my husband has been a Captain America fan all his life and he loved it; he felt it was very faithful to the comic. *shrugs*

In the interest of full disclosure, I am not big on WW2-fighting-the-Nazis movies in general so that may be what affected my perception. As I said, your mileage may vary.

I don't know that it matters which Hulk movie you see as long as you're familiar with the basic story (and you are). I was a fan of the old TV show, too (and read the comic book back in the day, lol). Hulk in 'The Avengers' is made of awesome but he is the gigantic version. His 'Bruce Banner' actor was excellent, though, and managed to convey a lot of emotion even while saying very little, which is something I admire in an actor.

In 'The Avengers' there were some throwaway references to events that happened in the 2008 'The Incredible Hulk' movie so that may help you decide?
